My retirement means that I will much less active in
Children's Ministry and will no longer hold the position
of Director of Children's Ministry. It also means I will
no longer hold a job of any kind that is a paid
position.
What it means to me is that I now have the option to say
no. I will not take responsibility for the day to day
operations of Children's Ministry or sign up to do any
extended teaching or classes. It gives me time to be a
little more flexible in life and ministry. It gives me
a chance to be with Chuck in a way we never thought was
possible after he became ill.
I will remain the Deacon at Holy Trinity. For the next
couple of months my attendance will be spotty. Chuck
and I will go to California for the birth of our 7th
grandchild. I will return in time for the Bishop's
visit in June and at this point plan to be around for a
mid-summer vacation Bible School. In August I will be
on Sabbatical until Advent when I plan to return to Holy
Trinity to serve as Deacon and take on ministry with
flexibility. I will not serve on Saturday nights unless
I preach. I will continue to counsel, teach , and do
pastoral care as a member of the clergy. My
relationship with the family of HT is very important to
me.
We will go for one week to St. Kitts as guests of my
sister and her husband the 2nd week of July and we will
go to Hawaii with my son and his family for
Thanksgiving.
During my sabbatical, I plan to go up to our fishing
trailer at Lake Bob Sandlin and write. I have started
writing verse and poetry already and would like to write
a couple of children's books during that time. I will
pray and rest and listen to God to see what is on
his(her) mind for me in the next couple of years. I
plan to be a Deacon until the day I die. This is also a
celebration of my 10th year in ordained ministry. I was
ordained in California on May 22, 1999.
Bonnie moved to Texas four years ago from Salinas,
California where she was ordained to the permanent
diaconate in 1999. She served at Holy Trinity at that
time, and afterwards at St. Matthew's Cathedral. She is
now delighted to return to Rockwall/Heath and this
parish family. She serves the Diocese as a Safe
Church Trainer and as ecumenical liaison on the local,
state and national level.
Bonnie is a grandmother to six and delighted that
they are all in the Dallas area. She lives with her
husband Chuck, a retired meteorologist, in Rowlett and
loves the outdoors and water sports. Additionally, she
is a history and travel buff.
